Prototyping away…

I’m so excited to share my DIY of the season! But because (I think) it’s super awesome, I’m keeping it under wraps for now. :)

Makeup I ordered came in, though I haven’t tried it out on anyone yet — any takers? It’s professional face paint so I expect it to be just what I’m looking for. And if not, my zombie makeuping friend Nickki will be getting some freebies.

Flags and uniforms are ordered. Made a basic outline of things to do with the guard over the summer to jack their endurance and performance abilities.

Progress is being made. Look out!

Hi!!!! My name is Kayla, I live in Texas, and this is my second year in Color Guard. My school has not had color guard for the last 15 years!!! Last year we did some silly stuff, but this year I was voted capatin and I was hoping maybe you could help me out!! (please) Our show is fall of troy, very greek.
I picked out the uniforms and they look great but I have no idea what to do for makeup, or even flags. My band director told me we have no money for flags but I was hoping you could maybe give me a DIY tip :)
Thank you for your blog it helps!!

      Kayla–

I’m so sorry I didn’t see this until now. It may be too late, but for makeup you could keep it very simple — no need to go overboard on makeup if the uniforms (and hairstyle) can carry the theme. In my opinion, makeup is an extra expense that could be better spent on some flags. The advice I have for you with flags on a budget is to never underestimate the effect of solid color flags! Solid color flags can be as little as $8 each and have good impact on the field. For a Troy theme, I’d definitely get some neutral colors, like the ones in the photo below. golds, coppers, silvers, off-whites, etc. and maybe some red if you’ve got a fiery song in your show!

Some other ideas I can suggest are painting flags with the greek key symbol ( click here to see the pattern) or even find a fabric with a pattern like it and make flags from them.

Unfortunately, there’s a monetary investment whichever way you go. However, the solid color flags could be used over and over again. I hope this helps a least a little bit! If you need anything else, feel free to contact me. :)

Good luck to you and your color guard this season!

Where’s the update? I am excited to see your flag choices and make-up. I don’t think I will see your band at any competitions so please post when you can!
